A poster displays book covers for the 'Battle of the Books 2026-2027' program.

The Battle of the Books is a district-wide reading challenge for elementary students in grades 4-6.

  • NEW this school year, in addition to competing as an individual, Newman Tigers can form teams of two to four students.
  • Teammates will divide up the list of books to read.  The more books a team reads, the better they will do! Motivate each other and give your team the best chance at success.
  • Read, read, read. Or listen, listen, listen—audiobooks count!
  • When you complete a book, tell Ms. Anderson. After discussing the book, she will put the TEAM name above the book title in our library windows.
  • The qualifying round of questions about all 20 books will be in February 2027.
  • The district competition will be March 2027.

The Battle of the Books is a competition, but most importantly, it creates excitement about high quality children's literature. There are a variety of books, so everyone will find something that they like.

E-books and audiobooks can be found in the Elementary Battle of the Books collection on Sora. They are also available for checkout in our library.
