4th Grade Pioneer Days - June 4th & 5th, 2018

Our 4th grade Pioneer Day was one for the books!  Homemade butter and bread, pioneer toys, handkerchief dolls, tying our homespun quilts, hammering to try our hand at tin punch and print making with our fabulous Mr. Paul.

We couldn’t have pulled it off without our spectacular helpers Clarrisa & Celiamarie Bartholomew, Heidi Fullmer, Stephanie Wunderly, Vicky Potts, Sean Archibeque, Alec Salvatore and Tracy & Lexi Aragon.  A special Thanks to Carolyn Bradshaw, owner of  our neighborhood quilt shop, “And Sew On”, for donating the fabric for our 3 classroom quilts.  Go visit her adorable fabric shop or better yet sign your kids up for some summer sewing classes.

We finished up with an edible covered wagon, games, music, and dancing. Stay tuned for our Day 2 recap!  Westward Ho!

Newman Elementary 2018 LBL Basketball Champions!

The Newman Elementary School Basketball Team took the Leadership Basketball League Basketball title on Friday, May 11th in one of the most exciting games of the season! The undefeated Newman Tigers won the championship game 41-40 against Meadowlark Elementary in a nail-biter. Throughout the season, the Newman Tigers played with consistency and discipline. The win was truly a team effort, where every team player rose to the occasion either by making free throws, long range shots, lay-ups, hustling for the ball, or playing defense. The Tigers demonstrated the unity and strength of how we can succeed when we have confidence in ourselves and in our teammates.

Not only are the Newman Tigers the 2018 champions on the basketball court, but in the classroom, as well. These 13 students, mostly 6th graders, have shown leaderships skills by: no missing assignments, being leaders throughout the school, demonstrating positive and respectful behavior towards other students and adults. We are proud of you for the athletic accomplishments but most importantly for the people that you are!

Thank you to our dedicated coaches Isaac Chavez and Carlos Guzman for their leadership and dedication to our players and to all the Newman students.

Stand Up for a Safe Utah

In light of the recent events in Florida and other tragedies that have happened around the country, we want to invite you to join KSL as we Stand Up for a Safe Utah. We have a very powerful resource and that is the SafeUT app.  As you all know, the SafeUT app provides real-time crisis intervention and has been proven to save lives and stopped planned school attacks.

Our goal is to make sure that every parent, student and educator is aware of the app and has it downloaded on their phone.

Encourage your friends to download the app

Donate to our School

At Newman Elementary, 80% of our students receive free or reduced lunch and many of our families can’t afford even the basic necessities.

Please consider a contribution so we can provide our students with the best education possible.  100% of your donation goes toward the initiative of your choice.

Coding with the Utah Jazz

We had 46 of our students participate in a fantastic “Kids for Coding” event sponsored by the Utah Jazz!
On Wednesday, December 6th, they traveled by bus to the Fulton Library on the UVU campus where they spent a couple of hours learning about and practicing their coding skills.  They all arrived back at school excited and loaded with prizes. Thanks fabulous Newman students, Utah Jazz, and our hosts from UVU!  This was a fun, and memorable day for all who attended.

Prevent Child Abuse Utah

Beginning in the 2016-17 school year, we are now required as per the HB 286 to provide training and instruction on child sexual abuse prevention and awareness to parents or guardians of elementary school students. If you volunteer at Newman Elementary, it is required for you to complete the training.  Please access the training through this link and follow the instructions.
